Billericay

As it lay within Great Burstead, Billericay was not mentioned in Domesday Book. In the identification of the origins of English place-names, Billericay (previously Billerica) is an exception. During the 20th century, Watercress was farmed in Billericay. There is a fort at Blunt's Wall Farm in Billericay; likewise 'Burh' gives its name to Great Burstead.

Before crossing River Thames at Tilbury, some of them may have spent the night in Billericay. Pilgrim, Chantry, Mayflower, and Martin (after a merchant who travelled as Ship's Governor on the Mayflower, Christopher Martin) are how Sunnymede School's houses were called. Christopher Martin include one of the four people that were on board. Other inhabitants of Billericay were not deterred from setting sail for the New World by the unfortunate fate of the would-be pioneers.

The colonists from Billericay established Billerica, Massachusetts, in 1655 by and named after their home town in England. Many examples in Billericay of houses of the period in the Georgian period were built. On the Great Eastern Main Line between London and Southend-on-Sea, the railway arrived in Billericay in 1889. St John's School, Mayflower High School, and Billericay School are in Billericay.

Although occasional proposals have been made to transfer it to Basildon, Billericay is part of the Brentwood district. Covered an area that as far as Pitsea and Brentwood stretches, Billericay Rural District was created in 1894. A civil parish and town, Billericay (/bɪləˈrɪkiː/ BIL-ə-RIK-ee) is in the Basildon Borough, Essex. The Norsey Wood burial mounds: occupation evidence in the Iron and Bronze Ages, are some of the records of human occupation of Billericay.

Pilgrims to Canterbury journeyed via Billericay in the 13th and 14th centuries. During the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, the Battle of Billericay was Billericay's most notable episode. Prior to their sailing in the Mayflower, a meeting of the Pilgrim Fathers in Billericay is said to have taken place, and much historical imagery and many names reflect this: Morris Men, Mayflower House, School, Taxis, Hall.

At Cater Museum in Billericay High Street, aluminium frame parts can be seen. Within London Basin, Billericay lies on a Bagshot Beds, Claygate Beds, and London clay mixture. Billericay has been part of the Billericay and Basildon parliamentary constituency, whose MP is the Conservative Party's John Baron, since boundary changes in Essex for the 2010 general election.
